It is completely normal to have questions before booking a boudoir session.
You may be wondering what to wear, how posing works, whether your images will remain private, how much the experience costs, or whether boudoir is really meant for someone like you.
Boudoir Nouveau is built around communication, consent, privacy, and collaboration.
The answers below explain what you can expect before, during, and after your session.

You Do Not Need to Arrive Completely Ready
Most people do not reach out because every detail is already decided.
You may feel interested but nervous. You may know you want the experience but have no idea what you would wear. You may have a complete concept—or only a feeling you want the photographs to capture.
The consultation exists to help turn those questions into a plan. You are not expected to know how to pose, assemble a wardrobe, choose lighting, or decide exactly how intimate the photographs should be before contacting us.
Before You Book
Who can book a Boudoir Nouveau session?
Boudoir Nouveau sessions are available to adults of all genders, body types, backgrounds, and levels of experience in front of the camera.
You do not need a particular relationship status, age, clothing size, or style.
Sessions are available for individuals and couples.
Do I need a reason to book?
No.
Some clients book for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, partner, or other milestone.
Others book entirely for themselves.
You may want to create art, explore sensuality, document a chapter of your life, see yourself differently, or simply have an experience that is outside your normal routine.
The reason belongs to you.
Do I need to feel confident first?
No!
Confidence is not an admission requirement.
Many clients arrive nervous, uncertain, or uncomfortable in front of the camera. The session is guided gradually, and we can begin with simpler, more covered portraits before moving into anything more intimate.
You do not need to become confident before booking.
Sometimes confidence is one of the things that develops during the experience.
Am I too old for boudoir?
Boudoir is not reserved for one age group.
The session is shaped around your personality, comfort, interests, and the way you want to be photographed—not around an arbitrary idea of who is “supposed” to book.
Do I need to lose weight before booking?
You do not need to change your body before you are allowed to be photographed.
We use lighting, posing, wardrobe, expression, and composition intentionally, but we do not begin from the belief that your body must become smaller or different to be worthy of a portrait.
Do you photograph all genders?
Yes! Boudoir Nouveau welcomes adults of all genders and gender expressions.
The visual direction, wardrobe, posing, styling, and level of intimacy are shaped around the individual rather than a fixed gendered formula.
Do you photograph couples?
Yes. Couples boudoir can be romantic, sensual, playful, dramatic, quiet, or concept-driven.
Both participants are included in conversations about comfort, boundaries, posing, privacy, and image sharing.
A couples-session fee applies because these sessions require additional planning, posing, and coordination.
Is Boudoir Nouveau only for women?
No. Much of our studio wardrobe currently leans toward feminine and lingerie-inspired styling, but the photography experience itself is not limited to women.
Clients are welcome to bring clothing and styling elements that feel appropriate to them.
Is Boudoir Nouveau LGBTQ+ inclusive?
Yes!! Our studio welcomes LGBTQ+ clients, couples, and creative ideas.
We do not assume relationship roles, gender expression, wardrobe preferences, or the kind of photographs you want based on identity.
Privacy and Image Sharing
Will my photographs be shared online?
Not unless you give appropriate permission.
Your images remain private by default.
You may choose:
- Complete privacy
- Permission for specific images only
- Permission for anonymous detail images
- Permission for images that do not show your face
- Broader sharing through a signed release
- To decide after viewing the finished images
You are not required to allow image sharing in order to book.
Will I be pressured to sign a model release?
No. A model release is optional unless you are participating in a specific discounted model call that clearly requires one.
For a standard paid session, your decision about image sharing does not affect the quality of service you receive.
Does privacy cost extra?
No! Keeping your images private does not increase the price.
Privacy is the default, not an upgrade.
How are my photographs delivered?
Purchased digital images are delivered through a private online gallery.
Access details are provided directly to you.
You should still protect your access information and download the files to a secure personal location.
If requested, we can provide your purchased digital images on a USB thumb drive, for a small extra cost, usually around $25 - $30 (depending on current retail prices for thumb drives).
Can I decide about sharing after I see the photographs?
Yes. Many clients prefer to make that decision after viewing the finished images.
You may release selected photographs while keeping the rest private!
Can I change my mind after granting permission?
Image-sharing permissions are governed by the release you sign.
Before signing, make sure you understand where and how the images may be used.
Questions or restrictions should be discussed in writing before permission is granted.
Will my images appear in advertising?
Only when your signed release permits that use.
Permission to share one image on social media does not automatically mean permission for all forms of advertising unless the release states otherwise.
Planning Your Session
What happens during the consultation?
The consultation helps us understand:
- Why you are considering the session
- The mood or style you are drawn to
- Your privacy preferences
- Wardrobe ideas
- Your comfort level
- Whether you want traditional, creative, soft, dark, playful, or more intimate photographs
- Whether the images are intended as a gift
- Your collection and payment options
- Any dates or deadlines
You do not have to share anything you would rather keep private.
Do I need to know exactly what I want?
No. You may bring a complete concept, a few reference images, one outfit, a mood, or no clear direction at all.
We can begin with what interests you and develop a practical plan together.
Can I bring inspiration images?
Yes, reference images can help communicate lighting, wardrobe, mood, color, pose, or atmosphere.
We use them as a starting point rather than attempting to duplicate another photographer’s work exactly.
Can I request a custom concept?
Yes! Fantasy Unscripted sessions may include custom sets, props, unusual styling, theatrical elements, surreal editing, or concept development.
More complex ideas may involve an additional creative fee for materials, preparation, construction, or post-production.
Any additional fees are discussed before work begins.
Can you recreate an image I found online?
We can use an image as inspiration, but we will not promise an exact copy.
Differences in body, wardrobe, location, lighting, equipment, editing, and authorship will affect the result.
The goal is to identify what you like about the reference and create something that feels original to your session.
Can I bring music?
Yes. Music can help establish the mood and make the studio feel more comfortable.
You are welcome to suggest a playlist or artist, or load up your phone with your favorites and connect to our stereo via Bluetooth (yes, we have WiFi!)
What to Wear
Do I have to wear lingerie?
No. Lingerie is one option, not a requirement.
You may wear:
- Bras and underwear
- Bodysuits
- Slips
- Robes
- Corsets
- Stockings
- Dresses
- Jeans
- Jackets
- Oversized shirts
- A partner’s shirt
- Boots or heels
- Fabric
- Vintage clothing
- A fully covered outfit
- Something created specifically for a concept
- Pretty much anything, or nothing.
The clothing should support the type of portrait you want.
Do I need to buy new clothing?
No. You may already own pieces that photograph beautifully.
A simple black outfit, loose shirt, fitted dress, jeans, jacket, or piece of fabric can be enough.
New clothing is optional.
How many outfits should I bring?
Bring more possibilities than you expect to use.
The number of photographed looks depends on your selected collection and planned concepts.
Having options gives us flexibility if a garment fits differently under studio lighting or does not work as expected.
Many clients bring a giant rolling suitcase - we are happy to help you get it into the studio!
What if I do not know what looks good on camera?
We will help.
During planning, we can discuss color, texture, fit, layers, neckline, shape, and how clothing supports the intended mood.
You can also bring multiple options to the studio for review.
Can I use clothing from the studio?
Selected vintage garments, lingerie-inspired pieces, fabrics, accessories, jewelry, gloves, hats, and props may be available. You are welcome to "go shopping" in our giant vintage clothing rack during your consultation, and during your session.
Sizing and fit vary, and the collection is not complete in every size.
We recommend bringing clothing you know fits comfortably, then using the studio collection to supplement or transform the look.
Is the studio wardrobe available in every size?
No.
Vintage garments are often one-of-a-kind and were made according to sizing standards that differ from modern clothing.
Even when a complete garment does not fit, accessories, fabric, jewelry, gloves, hats, jackets, or props may still be incorporated.
What should I avoid wearing before the session?
Avoid clothing that leaves deep marks on the skin immediately before your session when those marks would bother you in the photographs.
Examples may include:
- Tight socks
- Tight waistbands
- Restrictive bras
- Tight watches or bracelets
Comfortable, loose clothing is often helpful while traveling to the studio.
Should I remove tags from new clothing?
Yes.
Remove store tags, stickers, security devices, and visible packaging before the session.
Try each garment on in advance when possible.
Should I bring shoes?
Yes, when shoes are part of the look.
Bring options that are clean and safe to wear in the studio.
Shoes may be photographed or simply help complete the styling and posture.
Hair, Makeup, and Preparation
Is professional hair and makeup included?
No, professional hair and makeup may be available as an optional coordinated service or by referral.
Some clients prefer professional styling, while others feel more comfortable doing their own.
Do I have to wear heavy makeup?
No, makeup can be natural, soft, glamorous, dramatic, theatrical, or minimal.
The right choice depends on the concept and your personal preferences.
You should still look recognizably like yourself.
Can I do my own hair and makeup?
Yes. Bring any products or tools you may want for touch-ups.
Will there be time for touch-ups?
Yes.
Reasonable hair and makeup adjustments are part of the natural flow of the session.
The experience is not run as a rigid countdown.
Should I get a haircut or color immediately before the session?
Major changes are usually safer several days or more before the session so you have time to adjust or make corrections.
Avoid experimenting with an unfamiliar cut, color, spray tan, skincare product, or cosmetic treatment immediately before the session.
Do I need to shave or wax?
No, body-hair choices are personal.
Do what makes you feel most comfortable and most like yourself.
When shaving or waxing, consider your skin’s normal response and allow enough time for irritation to settle, which may be 24 - 72 hours prior to your session.
Should I get a spray tan?
Only when it is something you already use successfully.
An unfamiliar or last-minute spray tan may photograph unevenly, transfer to clothing, or create color-correction challenges.
Natural skin tone is always welcome.
Should I get a manicure?
It is optional.
Hands may appear prominently, so clean and cared-for nails can be helpful.
A manicure is not required.
What should I do with facial hair?
Style facial hair as you would like it represented in the finished photographs.
Avoid making an unfamiliar grooming change immediately before the session.
What to Expect on Session Day
How long does a boudoir session take?
We do not structure Boudoir Nouveau around a rigid photography timer.
Your collection is based on the number of finished images, wardrobe looks, and creative scope.
Your total time at the studio may include:
- Settling in
- Conversation
- Wardrobe review
- Hair and makeup touch-ups
- Clothing changes
- Lighting and set adjustments
- Breaks
- Image review
- Moving gradually into more intimate concepts
Reserve a generous portion of the day.
We will discuss the expected schedule based on your collection and planned ideas.
Why do you not advertise a strict time limit?
People become comfortable at different rates.
A strict timer can make clients feel rushed, discourage wardrobe changes, and make normal pauses feel like wasted time.
We allow the experience to develop naturally while still planning the session around the selected collection and agreed concepts.
Can the session continue indefinitely?
No, the session is planned around the selected collection, wardrobe looks, and concepts.
Reasonable flexibility is built in, but major additions or entirely new concepts may require a separate arrangement.
What happens when I arrive?
We usually begin by talking, reviewing wardrobe, confirming the plan, and making any final adjustments before photography begins.
You will not necessarily walk through the door and immediately begin posing.
Can I bring a guest?
A supportive guest may be welcome when arranged in advance.
The person should support your comfort rather than direct the session, criticize your appearance, or create pressure.
Too many people in the studio can become distracting, so guests must be discussed beforehand.
Can my partner attend?
This is up to you. Some clients feel more comfortable with a partner present. Others feel more self-conscious.
We can discuss what is likely to support the session.
Can I drink alcohol before or during the session?
We do not recommend relying on alcohol (or other intoxicants) to become comfortable.
Intoxication can affect consent, coordination, expression, safety, and the quality of the photographs.
A clear and comfortable experience is the priority.
Will the studio be warm?
We make reasonable efforts to keep the studio comfortable, especially when clients are wearing minimal clothing.
Temperature preferences vary, and equipment may affect room temperature, so breaks and layers are always available.
We are happy to adjust temperature in the studio before and during your session - just let us know!
Posing, Direction, and Consent
Do I need to know how to pose?
No, most clients do not know how to pose for boudoir.
We guide you through posture, hand placement, body angle, head position, movement, expression, and transitions.
You will not be left wondering what to do.
What if I feel awkward?
Feeling awkward at first is normal.
We can begin with simpler poses, more clothing, seated portraits, or straightforward expressions.
The session usually becomes easier as you understand the direction and see photographs working.
Will you show me images during the session?
Yes, we review selected images as we work.
This lets us adjust lighting, posing, expression, wardrobe, or styling while you are still in the studio.
Can I say no to a pose?
Yes! You may decline any pose, wardrobe choice, or concept.
Consent is ongoing.
Booking a boudoir session does not mean agreeing to every possible image.
Can I change my mind about nudity?
Yes! You may become more comfortable and choose to reveal more, or you may decide to remain more covered than originally planned.
Either choice is valid.
Do I have to be nude?
No. Your session may be fully clothed, lingerie-based, implied, partially nude, or more revealing.
The level of intimacy is your decision.
What is implied nudity?
Implied nudity creates the suggestion of nudity while using pose, crop, fabric, shadow, arms, hands, or other elements to conceal intimate areas.
The subject may be partially or fully unclothed outside the crop, but the finished image does not show explicit nudity.
Will the photographers touch me while posing?
Verbal direction and demonstration are preferred.
When a minor wardrobe or positioning adjustment might be helpful, permission should be requested before physical contact.
You may always decline.
Can I take breaks?
Yes. Breaks are normal and may be needed for water, rest, wardrobe changes, touch-ups, emotional reset, or privacy.
What if I become emotional?
Boudoir can bring up unexpected feelings.
We can pause, talk, change direction, or stop.
There is no requirement to push through an emotional response for the sake of a photograph.
Editing and Retouching
What editing is included?
Standard professional editing is included with purchased digital images.
It may include:
- Exposure and color correction
- Contrast and tonal finishing
- Cropping
- Temporary skin distractions
- Minor clothing cleanup
- Background distractions
- Overall refinement
Do you reshape bodies?
No. We do not make bodies thinner, larger, curvier, taller, or otherwise fundamentally different.
Posing, lighting, wardrobe, and composition are used intentionally during the session.
Do you remove scars?
We do not automatically remove permanent features.
Scars may be an important part of someone’s history and identity.
Specific requests can be discussed, but removal is not assumed.
Do you remove stretch marks?
We do not automatically remove stretch marks.
The goal is polished portraiture without erasing the natural details of your body.
Do you remove surgical marks?
Not automatically.
We understand that surgical marks may carry complicated feelings.
Any specific editing request can be discussed privately.
Can you remove temporary blemishes?
Yes. Temporary skin distractions are generally part of standard editing.
Can you smooth all of my skin?
We preserve natural skin texture.
The finished images should look polished without appearing plastic or artificial.
Can you perform more extensive editing?
Yes, in some cases.
Advanced retouching is available for an additional fee when the request requires substantially more work than standard finishing.
Complex compositing and surreal creative effects may require a separate concept fee.
Can I receive unedited images?
No. Unedited files are unfinished work and are not delivered or sold.
Pricing and Collections
How much does a Boudoir Nouveau session cost?
Collections currently begin at $649.
The collection price includes the experience and the specified number of professionally edited digital images.
Current collections are:
- Essential Collection: $649
- Signature Collection: $899
- Complete Collection: $1,249
- Optional albums, artwork, professional styling, couples sessions, additional images, and advanced creative work are priced separately.
What is the $249 retainer?
The $249 nonrefundable retainer reserves your date and begins the planning process.
It is applied toward your selected collection total.
It is not added on top of the collection price.
Are images included?
Yes. Each collection includes professionally edited digital images.
The Essential Collection includes 10.
The Signature Collection includes 20.
The Complete Collection includes all final edited photographs, with a guaranteed minimum of 35.
Do I need to choose a collection before the session?
We recommend choosing in advance.
This gives you a clear understanding of the total investment and allows us to plan the appropriate number of looks and concepts.
You may upgrade later by paying the difference.
Are payment plans available?
Yes. After the retainer, the remaining balance may generally be divided into scheduled payments.
Final digital images and products are delivered after payment is complete.
Can I buy additional images?
Yes. Current options include:
- One additional image: $35
- Five additional images: $150
- Upgrade to another collection by paying the difference
Are albums required?
No. Albums and printed artwork are optional.
How much do albums cost?
Current album pricing begins at:
- 6 × 6 album: $350
- 8 × 8 album: $500
- 10 × 10 album: $700
Final pricing depends on materials, page count, image count, and upgrades.
Is hair and makeup included?
No, professional hair and makeup may be added or arranged separately.
Is there an extra fee for couples?
Yes.
Couples boudoir begins with a $200 session add-on due to the additional planning, posing, and coordination involved.
Do custom concepts cost more?
They may.
Creative concept fees begin at $150 when a session requires purchased materials, elaborate sets, specialty props, extensive preparation, or complex post-production.
After the Session
How do I choose my photographs?
We will invite you back to the studio where you will select from a curated gallery of the strongest images.
The gallery will not include blinks, test frames, repeated poses, lighting adjustments, or unfinished photographs.
Do I receive every photograph taken?
No, the number of finished images depends on your collection.
The Complete Collection includes all final edited photographs, not every shutter click.
How many images will I see?
The number varies based on the collection, concepts, wardrobe looks, and how the session develops.
You will see enough curated images to make meaningful selections without sorting through hundreds of near-duplicates.
When will I receive my images?
Delivery timing depends on the number of selected images, current editing workload, product orders, and whether advanced editing is involved.
Your expected timeline will be discussed as part of the booking and ordering process.
Can you rush my images?
Rush service may be available depending on the studio schedule and the scope of the order.
An additional fee may apply.
Always mention fixed gift dates before booking.
Can I order an album later?
Possibly, but gallery deadlines and image availability may apply.
It is best to discuss album plans while the session and selections are current.
Do digital images include printing rights?
Purchased digital images include personal printing rights.
Commercial use, resale, publication, advertising, and third-party licensing require separate written permission.
Where should I print my images?
Professional products ordered through the studio provide the most consistent color, quality, and privacy.
When using personal printing rights elsewhere, quality and confidentiality may vary by vendor.
Planning a Boudoir Gift
Can I give the photographs to a partner?
Yes.
Boudoir photographs are often created for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, deployments, holidays, or private gifts.
They may also be created entirely for you.
How far in advance should I book for a gift?
Book as early as possible.
Allow time for:
- Consultation
- Payment planning
- Session preparation
- Photography
- Image selection
- Editing
- Album design
- Design approval
- Product production
- Shipping
Custom albums and artwork require more time than digital delivery.
Can my partner purchase a session for me?
A partner may contribute financially or purchase a gift certificate, but the person being photographed must choose to participate willingly.
A boudoir session should never be treated as an obligation.
Can you help keep the gift a secret?
We can take reasonable steps regarding communication and packaging when discussed in advance.
You are responsible for providing a safe email address, phone number, payment method, and delivery location.
Studio Policies and Safety
Is the retainer refundable?
No. The retainer is nonrefundable because it reserves your date and begins the planning process.
What happens if I am ill?
Contact us as soon as possible!
Health-related rescheduling is handled according to the current agreement, circumstances, and availability. We will of course attempt to work out a mutually agreeable date to reschedule your session.
What happens if I am late?
Late arrival may reduce what can reasonably be completed, especially when the delay affects other scheduled work.
Contact the studio as soon as you know you may be late.
Can I bring children?
Boudoir sessions are intended to remain private and focused.
Childcare should be arranged elsewhere unless a specific exception is discussed and approved beforehand.
Is the studio a safe and inclusive space?
Yes! Racism, bigotry, sexism, misogyny, harassment, intimidation, or degrading behavior from a client or guest is not accepted.
The studio reserves the right to end a session when conduct creates an unsafe or hostile environment.
Can a session be stopped?
Yes! You may stop the session.
The studio may also stop the session when safety, consent, conduct, intoxication, harassment, or other serious concerns arise.
Financial consequences are governed by the signed agreement.
