Boudoir Photography in Rochester, Minnesota

This is Boudoir Nouveau

Boudoir Nouveau is intimate portraiture built around art, emotion, personality, and collaboration.

It is not a required set of poses on a bed. It is not about changing your body into someone else’s idea of perfection. It is not reserved for people who already feel completely confident in front of a camera.

Your session may be quiet and understated, dark and cinematic, playful, sensual, strange, romantic, theatrical, or entirely your own.

We shape the experience around you.

Intimate Portraits That Feel Like You

Boudoir photography can be beautiful without becoming predictable.

You may want photographs that feel timeless and elegant. You may be drawn to dramatic shadows, experimental concepts, soft natural light, vintage styling, or something more provocative.

You may be planning a gift for a partner.

You may be doing this entirely for yourself.

You may not yet know exactly what you want. You may only know that you are curious.

That is enough to begin.

What Is Boudoir Nouveau?

Boudoir Nouveau is our approach to intimate portraiture.

The word “boudoir” often brings a very specific image to mind: a bedroom, lingerie, a handful of familiar poses, and photographs designed primarily for someone else.

Your session can include those elements when they genuinely reflect what you want, but they are not the limits of the experience.

Boudoir Nouveau creates room for:

Fine art black-and-white portraiture

Dramatic light and deep shadow

Soft, minimal images

Vintage styling

Custom-built creative concepts

Sensual portraits

Implied or artistic nudity

Playful, theatrical, or surreal ideas

Photographs made for a partner

Photographs made entirely for yourself

The experience begins with conversation rather than a formula.

Timeless Noir
Fine Art Black and White

Elegant, cinematic portraits shaped through expression, shadow, texture, and light.

Timeless Noir strips away visual noise and allows the body, face, gesture, and atmosphere to carry the photograph.

Fantasy Unscripted
Custom Creative Concepts

A space for unusual ideas, personal fantasies, constructed scenes, dramatic styling, props, storytelling, and creative risk.

Bring us a complete concept, a half-formed idea, or something you have never said aloud before.

Soft Femme Minimalism
Light, Space, and Quiet Intimacy

A softer approach built around clean light, simple styling, gentle movement, and understated sensuality.

These portraits feel open, calm, intimate, and effortless without becoming impersonal.

Timeless Noir

Fine Art Black-and-White Boudoir

Black and white can remove distraction and bring attention back to expression, shape, light, and gesture.

Timeless Noir portraits are created with deliberate lighting, rich shadows, controlled highlights, and an emphasis on emotional presence.

The result may feel elegant, mysterious, cinematic, sensual, or quietly powerful.

Your session might use:

Sculpted studio lighting

Deep shadow

Minimal backgrounds

Vintage clothing or lingerie

Draped fabric

Simple jewelry

Implied nudity

Direct, expressive portraiture

These photographs are not designed to hide you.  They are designed to see you clearly.

Fantasy Unscripted

Custom Creative Boudoir Concepts

Fantasy Unscripted begins with imagination.

You may have a visual idea you have wanted to explore for years. You may be inspired by a film, painting, character, dream, fantasy, piece of clothing, or private joke.

You may simply want photographs unlike anything you have seen before.

Concepts might involve:

Custom lighting

Sets or constructed scenes

Vintage wardrobe

Props

Fabrics and texture

Theatrical makeup

Surreal or dreamlike elements

Role play or character

Humor

Fantasy

A partner’s idea

Something designed entirely for you

You do not need to arrive with every detail solved.  We can begin with one idea and develop it together.

The concept should never overpower your comfort or identity. You remain part of every creative decision.

Your imagination does not have to fit inside a standard boudoir session.

Soft Femme Minimalism

Light, Airy, and Intimate

Not every intimate portrait needs deep shadow or dramatic styling.

Soft Femme Minimalism uses clean backgrounds, gentle light, subtle movement, and simple wardrobe choices to create photographs that feel warm, open, and personal.

The styling may include:

Simple lingerie

A loose shirt

Soft fabric

Bare shoulders

Minimal jewelry

Natural hair and makeup

Light or neutral colors

Quiet poses and expressions

The simplicity gives you room to be present.  There is no elaborate concept to perform and no need to become a character.

The portrait is enough.

Boudoir Is Not Reserved for a Certain Kind of Person

You do not need a particular body type, age, gender expression, relationship status, or level of confidence to book a boudoir session.

You do not need to lose weight first.

You do not need to know how to pose.

You do not need to become more comfortable with your body before you arrive.

The session is available to people who are confident, nervous, curious, excited, uncertain, or some combination of all five.

Boudoir Nouveau welcomes:

Every body type

Adults of different ages

All genders

Individuals and couples

People booking for themselves

People creating a gift

First-time portrait clients

Experienced performers or models

Anyone looking for a more artistic intimate portrait experience

Confidence is not an admission requirement.

Sometimes it is one of the things that develops along the way.

For Someone You Love—or Entirely for Yourself

A boudoir session can become a deeply personal gift.

An album, print collection, or private digital gallery can be created for a partner, anniversary, wedding, birthday, deployment, or another meaningful occasion.

But a partner is not required.

Many clients book because they want to document themselves as they are now. They want to make art, reclaim attention, explore sensuality, mark a transition, or experience being photographed in a way they have never allowed themselves before.

The reason belongs to you.

And the confidence built into the experience comes with every session.

Your Privacy Comes First

Boudoir photography requires trust.

Your photographs are private unless you explicitly give permission for them to be shared.

You will not be pressured to sign a model release.

You will not be told that sharing your images is the price of participating.

Your gallery is delivered privately, and image-sharing choices are discussed clearly.

You may choose:

Complete privacy

Permission for specific images only

Permission for anonymous or detail images

Broader sharing through a signed release

To decide after you have seen the finished photographs

Your decision does not change the quality of the experience or the attention given to your session.

Privacy is not an upgrade, it is the default.

You Do Not Need to Know How to Pose

Most people do not arrive knowing what to do with their hands, shoulders, hips, face, or expression, that is normal!

We guide you through the session using clear direction and small adjustments.

Guidance may include:

Body angle

Hand placement

Posture

Head position

Movement

Expression

Breath

Where to look

How to transition between poses

We review photographs as we work so we can adjust the lighting, expression, styling, or pose while you are still in the studio.

You are never expected to perform without direction, and you are also never required to hold a pose or expression that does not feel right.

Your Comfort Sets the Pace

Intimate portraiture should never require you to surrender control.  Before and during the session, we communicate clearly about wardrobe, posing, physical boundaries, image content, and privacy.

You may:

Decline any pose

Change your mind

Add or remove layers

Ask for more privacy

Request a break

Bring a supportive guest when arranged in advance

Choose whether any nudity is implied, partial, or not included

Stop or redirect a concept that no longer feels right

Consent is ongoing.  Agreeing to a boudoir session does not mean agreeing to every possible photograph.

The strongest images are created when you feel safe enough to participate rather than pressured to perform.

What Should You Wear?

There is no required boudoir wardrobe.  Lingerie is one option, not the definition of the session.

You may bring:

Bras and underwear

Bodysuits

Slips or robes

Stockings

Corsets

An oversized shirt

A partner’s shirt

Dresses

Jackets

Jeans

Heels or boots

Jewelry

Meaningful clothing

Fabric or accessories connected to a concept

Nothing more elaborate than a simple black outfit

Fit and comfort matter more than the number on the tag.  Bring several possibilities when you can. We can look at the pieces together and decide which options best support the visual direction.

The Boudoir Nouveau Wardrobe Collection

Our studio includes a growing collection of vintage garments, lingerie-inspired pieces, fabrics, accessories, jewelry, gloves, hats, props, and other visual materials.

Some items can become the foundation of a complete look. Others may serve as a layer or finishing detail.

Because the collection includes vintage pieces, fit and sizing vary. It is not a complete wardrobe in every size, and availability cannot be guaranteed.

We encourage you to bring clothing you know fits comfortably while remaining open to incorporating selected studio items.

A simple outfit from home may become something entirely different when combined with vintage fabric, jewelry, gloves, a dramatic jacket, or the right lighting.

Hair, Makeup, and Styling

Your session does not require heavy makeup or a dramatic transformation.

Some clients prefer professional hair and makeup. Others feel most comfortable styling themselves.

The right choice depends on the photographs you want to create.

Your look may be:

Natural and understated

Soft and romantic

Polished and glamorous

Dark and dramatic

Vintage inspired

Theatrical or concept driven

The goal is not to cover your face or make you unrecognizable.

Hair and makeup should support the portrait and help you feel prepared.

Current styling options, recommendations, and availability can be discussed during your consultation.

Editing Without Erasing You

Professional editing is included to finish the photograph, not to redesign your body.

Basic editing may include:

Exposure and color adjustments

Contrast

Cropping

Temporary skin distractions

Minor clothing or background distractions

Overall tonal finishing

We preserve recognizable features and natural skin texture.

We do not reshape bodies or automatically remove scars, stretch marks, birthmarks, surgical marks, or other permanent features.

These details are not flaws that must be erased.

When a specific creative photograph requires more extensive editing, that work can be discussed separately.

The final image should feel polished while still looking like you.

[What to Know Before You Book]

What the Boudoir Experience Looks Like

1. Private Consultation

We begin by talking about what draws you to the session.

You do not need to disclose anything you would rather keep private. The consultation helps us understand your comfort level, visual preferences, intended use, privacy needs, and any ideas you want to explore.

2. Creative Planning

We discuss wardrobe, lighting, mood, background, level of intimacy, styling, and the overall direction.

You may choose one consistent look or develop several distinct concepts.

3. Guided Session

During the session, we direct posing, expression, and movement while adjusting the light and composition.

We may begin with more covered or straightforward portraits before moving into more intimate ideas.

4. Image Review

We review selected photographs during the session so you can see what is working and participate in refining the direction.

5. Final Selection and Artwork

You choose the photographs you want from a curated set.

Your selected images receive professional editing and are prepared for your chosen digital and printed products.

Albums, Prints, and Private Digital Images

Boudoir photographs are often created to be held, revisited, and kept privately.

Available products may include:

Fine art albums

Prints

Metal prints

Wall artwork

Gift-sized portraits

Professionally prepared digital images

Private digital collections

An album can preserve the progression and variety of the session in a way that a single image cannot.

Digital images offer flexibility and privacy.  Printed artwork gives the photographs a physical presence beyond a screen.

Your printed images will be handled safely and securely.  We utilize an all-female printing company that provides a safe space for boudoir images to be handled with the care & respect they require.

We can discuss how you want to experience the final images before you make your selections.

FAQ

Do I need to be confident before booking?

No.

You can be nervous and still have an excellent session.

Confidence is not something you must supply before you arrive. Clear direction, preparation, and a respectful environment help the experience develop naturally.

Do I have to wear lingerie?

No.

Lingerie is only one option. Your session can include dresses, shirts, jackets, fabric, bodysuits, simple underwear, vintage clothing, or more covered styling.

Do I have to be nude?

No.

Nudity is never required.

Your session can be fully clothed, lingerie-based, implied, partially nude, or more revealing according to your comfort and the concept you choose.

Can I bring someone with me?

A supportive guest may be welcome when arranged in advance.

The studio should remain focused and comfortable, so we ask that guests be discussed before the session.

Do you photograph couples?

Yes.

Boudoir Nouveau welcomes adults of all genders and gender expressions.

If you are interested in a more erotic session, please contact us with your vision, and we will let you know if we can accommodate you.

Do you change body shape in editing?

No.

We do not reshape bodies. Editing is intended to polish the photograph while preserving identity and natural features.

Can you remove scars or stretch marks?

We do not automatically remove permanent features.

Specific editing requests can be discussed, but we do not begin from the assumption that scars, stretch marks, surgical marks, or other natural details should disappear. They tell your story!

Can I use the photographs as a gift?

Yes.

Albums, prints, and private digital images can be created for partners, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or other occasions.

Allow adequate time for product design, approval, and production if you need the finished artwork by a particular date.

How far in advance should I book?

Booking early is recommended, especially when you need an album or printed product by a particular date.

Creative concepts may also require additional planning time.

We can also provide payment plans prior to your session.

What happens if I am nervous?

We slow down.

We can begin with simpler, more covered photographs and allow you to become comfortable gradually.

There is no requirement to begin with the most intimate idea.

Can I bring my own concept?

Yes.

Bring references, clothing, music, props, a written idea, or even a vague description of the mood you want.

We will help translate it into a workable portrait concept.

Please note that it is far better to communicate your concept to us as far in advance as possible so that we can work with you to plan how everything should look!

You Do Not Have to Become Someone Else

You do not need to arrive completely confident.

You do not need the perfect body, perfect wardrobe, perfect pose, or perfect reason.

You only need enough curiosity to begin the conversation.

Together, we can create photographs that feel sensual, artistic, honest, playful, dramatic, or entirely unexpected.

The experience is shaped around your comfort, your privacy, and the version of yourself you want to see.
